LINZ seeks partnering opportunities to collect datasets that can be used beyond safety of navigation such as: resilience to natural events, management and protection of marine resources, and scientific research.

This survey tool allows users to submit a geographical area they would like surveyed - either by digitising the area on a map, or by uploading a shapefile.

Hydrographic data can be used for more uses than for safety of navigation. The survey asks what they want to use the data for - e.g. conservation and marine habit mapping, resilience and climate change, fisheries and aquaculture, etc.

Typical multibeam surveys collect data beyond bathymetry (depth) data. Other datasets include seafloor backscatter, water column backscatter, sound velocity profiles and seafloor samples.
